BIS Community BIS is very much a community school. We aim to serve, not only the students in our care, but also their families and the wider community in Bandung. There are several ways in which we do this: Transitions
At BIS we are very much aware of the stress involved with mobility as families arrive here in Indonesia, possibly for the first time that they have lived in a "foreign" environment. We try to provide our new families with a friendly and supportive atmosphere in the school and we are willing to help them get settled into life in Bandung by offering advice and guidance with decision making. We are very much aware that a happy family has a very positive influence on the successful education of a child. Similarly, when it comes time to move on from Bandung, children and families need a special kind of support as they deal with the emotional stress of parting and anticipating major change. Community Events During the course of the school year, the school community sponsors several family events and special social evenings. These include picnics, carnivals, dinner-dances and sporting occasions. The school campus is also used by the wider community for other similar events.
Adult Education As a "community of learners", we think it appropriate that our school should receive maximum use and so we provide facilities for continuing adult education such as evening classes in Information Technology, Language Instruction, Music and Art. Facilities School facilities are used by Bandung Amateur Drama Company, aspiring mountaineers, swimmers and different adult sports teams. Facilities are available for rent to community members at very modest prices. FoBIS FoBIS is an association of teachers, parents, and community: Friends of Bandung International School is not a private club and the membership fee to join is free. If you have a child enrolled at Bandung International School you are automatically a member. FoBIS is organized and run by volunteer parents and teachers. The main goals of FoBIS are to raise funds for Bandung International School and to provide social activities for the school and the greater expatriate community. The funds raised by FoBIS are used to update, improve, or expand existing facilities. In the past, funds raised by FoBIS played a big part, for example, in updating the BIS computer lab. As always, FoBIS will also put great effort into providing our students with the most enjoyable activities possible. Living overseas can be hard on children. FoBIS provides invaluable social activities that enhance an expatriate child's life. The FoBIS Committee holds meetings once a month (dates and times to be announced) and is open to every parent. Please join the next meeting and volunteer a few hours of your time for this worthwhile cause. Remember; your child will benefit from your help and expertise. If you should have any questions or concerns or just want to stop by, observe, and have a cup of coffee you are more than welcome. If your excuse for not attending is that you have younger children that do not attend school you are not alone. Bring them along, as well as a toy or two, to help keep them occupied. If English is not your first language, or you have a little trouble understanding it or following along, let one of our committee members know, and they can introduce you to one of our FoBIS language representatives. We all want the best education possible for our children, so a few hours a week or a month of your time is not a lot to ask in order to accomplish this. The more volunteers there are the less work everyone has to do. Volunteering for FoBIS is also a great way to make new friends and have fun! Dates, meeting times, a list of the FoBIS committee members, and any other information will be sent home with students, included in the school newsletter, and can be found on posters placed around school. The FoBIS Committee wishes to thank you for your time and attention. |
