Teacher Experiences
Athesa Maulidiana
Athesa Maulidiana, the assistant with French, Indonesian, and Indonesian Culture, had lived in Bandung five years before she moved to Jakarta for two years and came to BIS. She has stayed at BIS for 2 years. Her best memory about Bandung are her friends and she has too many wonderful memories from BIS, with the students, teachers, staff, and events! She has had different experiences ranging from EC1 to High School. She enjoys it all: the joy of teaching the students, the fun of playing around, and sometimes the anger and deception from their bad attitudes. Athesa most remembers teacher Miss Pauline Despas and the Unity in Diversity Day event. She says everything at BIS is so wonderful and she is pleased to be a part of it.
Carissa Scott
Carissa Scott has lived in Bandung and taught at BIS for a year and four months. Some of her better memories of Bandung include parties, nights out, and the funny side of “treatment” at Indonesian hospitals. Carissa Scotts also enjoyed the friendship and community feeling at her first Unity in Diversity day last year, where people from different cultures, communities, and religions get together to celebrate themselves and everyone else. She hasn't worked here long enough to forget anyone, and she loves the great staff, students, and parents. To her, BIS is a family away from home.
Ibu Lina
Ibu Lina has lived in Bandung 24 years and worked at BIS one and a half. She teaches Indonesian language and culture for EC and Elementary students. From Bandung, Ibu Lina enjoys the cold weather and fresh air. From BIS, she takes pleasure in the wonderful and talented colleagues she's been working with. Ibu Lina remembers all students who had left BIS. They were highly motivated, and unfortunately, they had to move to another countries or cities. She enjoyed planting trees and having fun at Unity in Diversity Day in 2006.
Ian Mulyana
Ian Mulyana, as an Admissions Officer, faces different kinds of people from different countries with different kinds of character, attitudes, and behavior, but most of them are nice and friendly, have critical positive thinking and appreciate education. He loves the parents and students as well as the whole staff at BIS because we are special community that highly respects and understands each other. BIS is just like a small planet earth where more than 25 nationalities gather to have fun and learn based on the world wide best curriculum from IBO. He enjoys being a part of the BIS community.
Jonas Rejda
Jonas Rejda has lived in Bandung seven years and worked at BIS four years. Of Bandung, he most remembers the lovely vistas, cool air, and warm people. Jonas Rejda thinks the atmosphere at BIS makes it a great place to study and work. He wishes he could have attended a school like BIS when he went to school, but is happy to settle for working with the lucky students. He most remembers the teacher Rob Sims and the student Ashley Taylor. He enjoyed too many events at BIS to single out just one!
LeAnn Bonzo
LeAnn Bonzo has lived in Bandung for 15 years and has worked in BIS for 2 years. Her most memorable memory while living in Bandung is the beautiful sunsets and the cool breezes which Bandung is home to. Her most memorable memory while working in BIS is when her daughters performing their dance and gymnastic performances for the talent show. Leann also quoted that BIS has been a great place for her daughters to go to school and that the staff and the teachers are dedicated and wonderful people. She also feels like that she is a part of the BIS Family. When asked which person she remembered the most, she mentioned Mary Gilleece and Jan Russell, as those are model teachers who show the sacrificial commitment to caring for BIS students. The event Leann remembers most are the Talent Shows.
Grant McTavish
Grant McTavish best remembers holding newly born son, Robbie, for the first time. Some of his best memories from BIS are when he has to give a demonstration to a class, usually EC3 or Grade 1, and at the end of it gets applause and whoops of enthusiasm. He has had this happen in High School class too and it usually lets him know that he's guaranteed to get some great work out of the students. The best thing about BIS is the sense of community. It has a very friendly and welcoming culture. It's wonderful to see that the students in Grade 12 know who the students in EC3 are and look out for them (Although this is becoming more difficult to sustain as the school has grown so much in the last few years). Grant McTavish has special memories of all the students he's worked with, but there are a few who stand out: the enthusiastic Stanley Aryanto, the very talented Min Ji Choi, and those who are not naturally gifted or experienced in art but who develop and extend their knowledge and skills and produce surprising and exciting art work, like Christoph Holler.
Michelle Kuan
Michelle Kuan has lived in Bandung for a period of 3 months and has taught in BIS for the same period of 3 months. Her most memorable memory in Bandung is the nice weather which Bandung is home to. Her most memorable memory in BIS is the fact that students are eager to learn. When asked further about her experience she quoted ‘Not much to tell yet, ask me again next year!' The people she remembers most are Mr. Rod Murphy, Mrs. Jan Russell, and all the students who study Chinese in her class. Michelle's most favorite event is the Halloween party so far.
Stephen Taylor
Stephen Taylor has lived in Bandung for 4 years, and is currently working in BIS for his first year. His most memorable memory about Bandung is getting lost on the angkots for the first time. His most memorable memory while working in BIS is being able to feel welcome. Stephen's response when we asked him about further information about his experience he gave us a response of ‘Not Been here that long!' When asked about the person he remembers most he gave us a response of ‘They're all pretty hard to forget.' |
